Oyo: INEC fixes April 15 for supplementary elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State has fixed April 15 for the Oluyole Federal Constituency and Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituencies supplementary elections.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo State, Dr. Adeniran Rahamon Tella disclosed this to shadanpamarepoters in Ibadan on Saturday.

Recalled that INEC declared the elections in the two Federal Constituencies inconclusive as a result of the failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and disruption of the electoral process by hoodlums, during the Feb. 25 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

“For Oluyole Federal Constituency, two Polling Units were affected due to disruption of the election by suspected hoodlums as such voting could not continue in the Polling Units.

“For Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency, there were BVAS malfunctioning which affected the smooth conduct of the election in the Constituency.

“The margin of lead between the two leading candidates was very lower than the total number of PVCs collected in the affected two Polling Units in the Constituency,” the REC said.

Tella however appealed to all stakeholders in the affected constituencies to conduct themselves in an orderly manner.

He said that INEC was fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, and creditable election that would be acceptable to all parties concerned.

The commissioner also assured the electorates in the areas of the readiness of the security agencies to provide adequate security during and after the elections.

While giving an overview of the election in Oyo State, Tella said, “I must recognise and express the commission’s immense appreciation to all our stakeholders, especially members of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), political parties, Csos/NGOs, the media, Religious leaders, Traditional Rulers, Security Agencies, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), National Orientation Agency (NOA), INEC staff and ad-hoc staff members for their unrelenting support for the successful conduct of the election in the state.” (shadanpamarepoters)
