UNWTO to evaluate Ekiti tourism potential for development

The Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism says that the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) is set to carry out physical evaluation of the state’s tourism potential

Mr Wale Ojo-Lanre, Director-General of the Bureau ,who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, said that the assessment was to ensure the state’s tourism policy and master plan aligned with international standards and best practices.

Ojo-Lanre said that the exercise ,slated to hold from Aug. 17 to 22, would bring opportunities and transformative benefits to the state.

“The UNWTO team will provide a thorough and professional evaluation of Ekiti state’s tourism potential.

“The assessment will help identify and recommend historical tourism heritage sites in Ekiti for potential designation as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, enhancing the state’s cultural tourism significance globally.

“This portends increased international recognition for the state’s tourism sector.

“The visit will elevate Ekiti State’s profile on the global stage, attracting international recognition for its tourism sector and positioning the state as a prime tourism destination”he said .

He added that the mission would facilitate further partnerships with UNWTO, granting the state access to global funding and resources for sustainable tourism development,” he said.

According to Ojo-Lanre, the state is expected to experience a significant increase in tourists’ inflow, leading to substantial economic benefits for the state.

“The state government is excited to welcome the UNWTO team and looks forward to the transformative impact this mission will have on the state’s tourism sector,” he said.
