Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), on Wednesday, defeated Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, 5-3 in penalty shootouts to win the 2024 edition of Gov. Seyi Makinde tertiary institutions football competition.
The final entered penalty shootouts after regulated minutes of exciting skills display with 1-1 draw.
Raji Azeez opened the scoreline at 17th minute with a sublime strike to give OYSCATECH early lead against LAUTECH.
While Tayo Rasak’s 20th minute penalty equaliser helped LAUTECH to get an important goal to regain their morale in the final match.
Speaking on the game, Coach Azeez Olalekan of LAUTECH, said that the players created many chances and played according to instructions but wasted many scoring opportunities.
“We are the defending champion and our aim is to retain the trophy, penalty is a game of luck that can not be predicted, “he said.
On his part, Coach Joseph Ogunsola of OYSCATECH, commended the Oyo State Government for creating a platform for students to showcase their talents.
It would be recalled that OYSCATECH emerged victorious over Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa (AOPE), in a tightly contested match on Sunday, with 7-6, to secure the final match ticket.
