The Labour Party (LP) Chairmanship candidate for Oluyole Local Government in the April 2024 local council polls in Oyo State, Hon. Oyebukola Oyadapo Akinpelu, on Saturday flagged off her campaign in Ibadan.

The event was graced by the Oyo State Chairman of the LP, Chief Sodiq Atayese, state and local executives of the party, religious and community leaders, party faithful and well-wishers in Oluyole Local Government Area.

Speaking on her “Seven-Point Manifesto of Emancipation”, Akinpelu promised that if elected, her administration would ensure food security via proper food value chain, infrastructural development and holistic education.

She promised Oluyole residents that the security of lives and property would be given priority so that both farmers, artisans, market men and women would do their jobs without the fear of being kidnapped.

She added that her administration would create more jobs through the establishment of skills acquisition centres across the council area and promote massive youth empowerment programmes.

“If elected, our administration will provide qualitative primary healthcare and ensure adequate care for the vulnerable and less privileged within Oluyole local government area,” she said.

LP State Chairman, Chief Sodiq Atayese, while presenting Akinpelu to Oluyole residents as the party’s chairmanship candidate, urged them to vote en-mass for all LP candidates at local and ward levels in the forthcoming election.

According to Atayese, the present hardship in the country, caused by the different parties that had ruled in Nigeria, shows that LP remains the only hope for the common citizens.

“It is the only party that identifies itself with workers in Nigeria,” he said.

He said that LP comprised of civil servants, drivers, lawyers, traders, farmers, artisans and private sector workers, making it the only party with the understanding of where and how to address the citizens’ sufferings.

The state chairman assured Oluyole residents that all candidates presented by the party had been properly screened and found worthy to contest for chairmanship and councillorship positions.

A cleric, Alhaji Moronkeji Rahmon Olanrewaju, who spoke on behalf of the Chairman, League of Imams and Alfas, Akorede LCDA, Oluyole, Sheik Ibiyemi, advised all LP candidates to be brave and work hard to spread the party’s tentacles to nook and cranny of Oluyole LGA.

He said that Nigerians were already tired of the past and present politicians in power due to the high cost of food and general hardship in the country and are now willing to vote for LP.

He charged the candidates to be truthful and uphold their campaign promises if elected into their respective offices.

Similarly, Pastor Dele Olaleye charged all LP candidates to be at rest, saying they have many silent followers who would ensure victory for the party in the forthcoming election.

He commended the party for presenting young and vibrant youths, who had decided to bring growth and development to Oluyole LGA.

Urging the candidates to ensure transparency and integrity if elected into office, he warned that some youths had, in the past, disappointed those who voted them into power.

The flag-off featured a road show, distribution of campaign materials, launching of the party’s programmes and agenda for Oluyole residents among others.
