Interventions: Sanwo-Olu hasn’t let masses’ down—Ex-Lagos lawmaker
A former Lagos lawmaker, Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu, says Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has not let residents of the state down with his latest interventions to mitigate economic hardship.
Olorunrinu, who represented Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly between 2015 and 2019, made this remark in an interview with newsmen on Thursday.
Sanwo-Olu has at different times introduced several measures to alleviate hardship in the wake of the Federal Government’s removal of subsidy of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol.
As hardship continues due to rising cost of living, Sanwo-Olu at a media parley on Thursday again announced some measures to further cushion the plights of the masses.
The governor announced that his administration would be reducing public servants working days as part of plans to cushion the cost of living crisis in the country.
On the rising cost of food, Sanwo-Olu added that his administration would open more markets where Lagos residents could buy food items at discounted rates.
He added that the 25 per cent reduction on transport services would start Friday for the State Public Transport system (BRT, Train, Ferry).
The governor noted that his administration was also in discussions with various transport unions to reduce their fares.
Reacting, Olorunrinu told newsmen that Sanwo-Olu and Lagos State House of Assembly deserved commendation for their empathy on the people of the state at this hard times.
“With all these measures, we can boldly say that Sanwo-Olu has not let us down.
“We commend the governor for all his effort towards making ordinary residents and workers survive this current economic situation.
“The recent gesture of the governor will be felt by average residents of the state.
“Let us give kudos and applause to the governor and the Lagos State House of Assembly ably led by Rt-Hon. Mudashiru Obasa for some of these interventions,” Olorunrinu said.
According to him, the governor’s address today has showed that the welfare of the people is uppermost in his mind.
The politician said: “This is actually what governance is all about. These interventions say a lot that the governor really wants people to survive.
“It is heartwarming to see the Lagos State House of Assembly calling on the governor to take steps on alleviating the suffering, and to see the governor taken such step immediately.
“We can see the heartfelt and concern of a compassionate leader in Sanwo-Olu in his address today.
“We have seen measures taken now to reduce the agonies of the people in transportation, food and others.”
According to him, public officers are elected or appointed to serve the people and alleviate their suffering.
He urged the people to continue to support the government’s effort in tackling suffering in the land.
