IBEDC urges Nigerians to be safety conscious in rainy season

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company(IBEDC) has called on its consumers to be safety conscious as the rainy season descends.

IBEDC’s Acting Managing Director, Engr. Francis Agoha, in a statement on Thursday in Ibadan, appeals for caution around electrical installations noting that the period comes with the increased risk of electrical accidents.

“It’s crucial to take proactive steps to safeguard lives and properties, as the safety of our customers and stakeholders remains our topmost priority.

“The safety of our stakeholders is paramount, we are dedicated to providing a secure and dependable power supply while educating our communities on staying safe during the rainy season. Through vigilant maintenance, rapid emergency response, and continuous public outreach, we strive to minimize risks, “he said.

Agoha urged Nigerians to avoid contact with fallen power lines and stay clear of flooded areas.

“Heavy rains and storms can cause power lines to fall. Avoid any contact with these lines and immediately report such incidents to IBEDC’s emergency services.

“Flooded zones pose significant hazards, especially if electrical equipment is involved. Refrain from walking through flooded streets or touching electrical fixtures.

“Also, there is need for regular check of home or business’s electrical connections to ensure that they are secure and shielded from water by looking out for exposed wires or malfunctioning connections, “he said.

The Acting Managing Director urged consumers to always use protective gear and be emergency ready during heavy rainfall.

He advised people to ensure that they wear rubber-soled shoes and avoid metal objects when outdoors during heavy rainfall to minimize the risk of electrical accidents.

“For emergencies such as electrical hazards, power disruptions and other issues, consumers can reach out to us promptly at 07001239999 or via our social media channels.

“By adhering to these safety measures, we will have a safer rainy season ourselves and community.
