Husbands beating wives beat down their treasures—Cleric

Prophet Samuel Adegboyega, the General Overseer, Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church (SPAC) International, Ibadan, says husbands who beat their wives beat down their treasures.

Adegboyega, a 78-year old cleric, made this remark in his sermon during the Solemnisation of Holy Matrimony between Miss Taiwo Ajayi and Master Tolulope Alegbeleye at SPAC Int’l Church on Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The bride, Taiwo, a legal practitioner, is a daughter of Justice Ezekiel Ajayi of the Oyo State Judiciary while the groom is an engineer.

Speaking on the sermon titled, “The Wine Pot Must Not Go Dry”, Adegboyega said husbands abusing their wives would continue to labour in vain in whatever they do.

He said that the institution of marriage remained sacred, saying that it was disgusting the way it has been bastardised by many people.

According to him, no condition including economic challenges is enough for any spouse to deviate from the original plan and purpose of God for marriage.

Adegboyega said that couples, who intended to fulfill God’s purpose in marriage must pass seven resolutions.

He said that these included that: “I will never beat or be violent to my wife. When you beat your wife, you are beating down your treasures.

“I will never abuse or be violent to my husband, when you abuse your husband you are also cursing your head.”

The cleric highlighted other resolutions to include: ” That this union is until death do us part at old age. I will forsake all other women/men not just for now but forever as we both live.

“I will rejoice with the wife/ husband of my youth. We will always have time together to make each other, happy and keep nothing sacred to each other including on finance.

“We shall together keep more committed to the service of our Lord Jesus.”

Reading from biblical reference of Ephesians 5 verses 22 and 28, Adegboyega, who adminished the couple to obey the resolutions, said that husband remains the head of the home but not as an army general rather to create peace.

Speaking, the bride’s father, Justice Ajayi, who handed her daughter in marriage, prayed God grant the couple joy and happiness in the union.

The justice, who appreciated families and friends that graced the occasion, admonished the couple to love and respect one another while also unrelenting in the serving God.

Ajayi, who is also a member of Prayer Warriors in the ministry, said: “I just want to pray God be with them in this journey and grant them their heart desires.

“They are already trained in the way of the Lord, I believe with the Lord Jesus Christ on their side, they are in for an unspeakable bliss.”

Also speaking, Mr Samuel Ajayi, retired Director, Federal Ministry of Information and elder brother of the bride’s father, said that with increasing patience and perseverance, the marriage would succeed.

Ajayi, who wished the couple peace and fruitfulness, urged them to always look up to God at every crossroad.

The groom, in his remark thanked all the officiating ministers and parents for their counsels and admonitions, promising not to deviate from the original plan of God for marriage.

He said : “We thank everyone, especially our parents for this show of love and support. We shall not disappoint God, our parents and the ministers of God.”

The couple were presented a photo frame housing the seven resolutions preached by the cleric.

The marriage and reception at the International Conference Centre (ICC), University of Ibadan was graced by several men and women of wigs and gowns, political stakeholders among others.
