Hunger Protest: Tinubu addresses Nigeria Sunday

President Bola Tinubu will address Nigerians on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 7:00am in response to ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests.

The address, announced by his spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, will be a live broadcast on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

The broadcasts will be repeated at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm the same day.

The protests, which began on Thursday, have been driven by widespread discontent over economic hardships, including soaring inflation and the high cost of living.

Demonstrators, including opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, have called for Tinubu to address the nation and respond to their grievances.

Key demands include the restoration of petrol subsidies, reform of the forex regime, and improvements in governance, including reducing the size of the President’s cabinet and addressing unemployment and food shortages.
The protests have led to significant unrest in several states, including Kano and Borno, with reports of violence and property damage as some groups exploited the situation since its commencement on Thursday, Aug. 1.
