Equip yourselves with great values, Makinde charges corps members

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has admonished National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state to equip themselves with the right values to ensure a better future.

He said this on Tuesday in Iseyin during the opening of the 2024 Batch B Stream I orientation camp for corps members deployed to the state.

Makinde, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, urged the corps members to add values to themselves by learning some skills for self-actualisation.

According to him, the trainings were designed to stem the rising tide of graduates’ unemployment in the country.

“As vibrant youths with potential, I therefore charge you to avail yourselves of the opportunities provided during this orientation exercise.

“You are the future and hope of this nation, and I admonish you to equip yourselves with the right values to ensure a greater future,” the governor said.

He said his administration had set up development programmes where youths in different fields could utilise their knowledge and skills which would be beneficial to the government.

“Being part of the state development programmes will automatically add value to the certificate you have acquired,” Makinde said.

The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mr Abel Odoba, enjoined corps members to take the orientation course serious and participate in all camp activities.

According to him, the camp activities serve as a veritable platform for every corps member to fully interact with their colleagues from other ethnic groups, thus fostering national unity.

“I urge you to embrace this privilege of the training for your personal growth and learning.

“You stand the chance of leveraging this rare opportunity to deepen your understanding and refine your skills as many of your peers do not have the opportunity you have,” Odoba said.

The occasion featured the administration of oath of allegiance on the 2,513 corps members by the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima.
