Ekiti: Oyebanji’s flyover, misplaced priority — PDP’s guber aspirant
A People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Dr Peter Obafemi has described Gov. Abiodun Oyebanji’s flyover initiative as a misplaced priority.
Rising from an Ekiti stakeholders meeting in Lagos on Sunday, Obafemi, an aviation top shot, said in a statement that the state development initiative should not lack purpose.
According to him, some developmental projects of Oyebanji, especially the Okeyinmi to Ijigbo roundabout flyover bridge, lacked strategic initiative that could spur industrialisation in the state.
Obafemi, who is the leading PDP governorship aspirant in 2026 Ekiti State gubernatorial election, said that state should not be made to head to the wood for lack of focus.
According to him, those on whom society has shouldered the responsibility to sound off for justice have suddenly lost their voices.
Decrying alleged sycophancy around the governor, the astute businessman and philanthropist, said that the governance had not been rated high.
“Yet, the elites seem to have been hounded into compulsory silence and the lawmakers appear to have retreated to slumber land.
“Ekiti, the fountain of knowledge and land of honour is laboriously gasping for breath,” Obafemi said.
Decrying alleged corruption on the seat of power, Obafemi called on the people of goodwill and patriots in Ekiti State to come together and take responsibility.
He urged the stakeholders, “to respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people.
“The goal is to restore the dignity and worth of our dear state and strive to see the dividends of good governance trickle down to our people at the grassroots.”
According to him, the very fact that Oyebanji’s only landmark achievement two years into his lifespan, remains the construction of overhead bridge, is grossly embarrassing to the status of the state.
He described this as a serious affront to the collective dignity and sensibility of her lettered populace.
Obafemi said that this should be a source of serious concern to the enlightened minds and people of conscience in general.
The aspirant also decried alleged loss of the state glory in education, health, and economy.
“Education has taken flight from Ekiti state, the fountain of knowledge and land of honour to neighbouring states. How the mighty has fallen.
“Public health institutions have failed. Citizens no longer have access to health care services, yet billions of taxpayers’ money is voted into the sector in the annual budget which is always shrouded in secrecy.”
Calling for special attention on agriculture and farmers, Obafemi said that Ekiti State must continue to build economy, attracting local and foreign investors and opening economic windows for their own people like other states in the South West.
Obafemi, the Ikole-Ekiti born businessman turned politician, said that instead of “celebrating unproductive project”, Oyebanji must concentrate more on service delivery to meet the needs of Ekiti people.
“Enough of the brawl over flyover. Gov. Oyebanji to please consult widely, create jobs, woo investors, engage the youths, pay pensioners on time, build industries and revive old ones.
“The governor must give attention to agriculture, expand investment in education, give a little thought to the health sector, fulfill your job promises and fear God,” Obafemi said.
