Eid-el-Fitr: Cleric urges FG to prioritise welfare of Nigerians

Lagos–Imam Nurudeen Abdul-Kadiri, Chief Imam of Alhaja Sideeqat Ahmad Megida Central Mosque, Ikorodu, has urged all tiers of government to prioritise the welfare of citizens to reduce the level of poverty in the country.

Abdul-Kadiri made the plea during the Eid-el-Fitr prayer held at the mosque premises on Wednesday in Ikorodu, Lagos.

He said that government should invest more in consumables and provide jobs for youths.

“Government should assist in paying fees of students in higher institutions, which will go a long way in reducing crime in the society,’’ he said.

The chief imam solicited the support of Nigerians for the present administration with prayers.

“Nation building, good governance and good followership are keys to the development of any nation.

“Please do not curse our leaders; rather, support them with prayers,”Abdul-Kadiri said.

He advised Nigerians to know that no one could remove the pain of a nation except the Almighty Allah.

Abdul-Kadiri prayed Allah to strengthen President Bola Tinubu and his cabinet to achieve success.

The cleric appealed to Muslims to adopt a five-point agenda after Ramadan, saying that they should be thankful to the Almighty Allah for giving them the opportunity to end the Ramadan.

Abdul-Kadiri urged Muslims to be patient, saying there was need for consistency by extending the lessons learnt during Ramadan.

He encouraged women to be well-dressed and be faithful, saying that by doing this, a better society would be established because women were the back bone of any community.

The cleric also urged the rich in the country to be merciful to the needy in the society by paying their Zakat as at when due and assist the less privileged.

An IT Consultant, Mr Wasiu Usman, said he was surprised seeing many Nigerians at the Eid ground which showed that rate of faithfulness was increasing in the country.

Usman prayed for Allah’s guidance and success for the president, other executive members and those of other arms of government.

Another Muslim Faithful, Mr Ahmed Lawal, appreciated God for feeding them during Ramadan and prayed for mercy on the nation.

A Teacher, Mrs Afusat Badmus, thanked God for His mercy and urged government to ease the hardship in the country.

Mrs Tawakalitu Fadipe, commended Tinubu for working hard in ensuring good governance for Nigerians.

She advised Muslims to imbibe “Zakatul Fitr” to purify their mistakes during fasting and also assist the poor to celebrate on Sallah Day.
