Babalwa M emerges Spotify’s EQUAL African artiste for August

South African sensational Amapiano vocalist, Babalwa Mavuso, popularly known as “Babalwa M”, has emerged Spotify’s EQUAL African artiste for August.
Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.
“Babalwa M’s musical prowess, her contributions to the South African music industry and her advocacy for women’s voices in the region made her a well-deserved recipient of this recognition from Spotify,” Okumu said.
She said the artiste had rapidly risen to prominence due to her vibrant performances, compelling lyrics, and soulful voice.
She noted that Babalwa M’s music usually blended Afro-pop and Amapiano, exploring themes of empowerment, love, and resilience.
“Her inspirational sounds resonate deeply with listeners worldwide.
“We are elated to spotlight Babalwa M as our EQUAL Artiste for August.
“Babalwa’s incredible talent and her dedication to empowering women through her music and advocacy make her an inspiring role model and ideal selection for the EQUAL programme this month.
“Her music not only entertains but also uplifts and unites, reflecting the very essence of what our EQUAL programme stands for,” she said.
Okumu exolained that Spotify’s EQUAL programme was dedicated to amplifying the voices of women artistes globally and ensuring they receive the recognition as well as support they deserve.
She said by spotlighting female artistes like Babalwa M, Spotify aimed to foster gender equity in the music industry and celebrate the diverse talents of women around Africa.
She said Babalwa M is a multi-award-winning musician and songwriter who draws inspiration from personal experiences and societal issues.
According to her, Babalwa M’s versatile style has led to collaborations with international artistes, allowing her to blend her sound for a global audience.
She said this had significantly amplified her influence and expanded her reach.
