Eid-el-Fitri: Makinde urges Muslims to imbibe spirit of Ramadan
Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo has urged Muslim faithful across the state to imbibe the spirit of Ramadan, as they celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitri.
Makinde stated this at the Ibadan Central Praying Ground, Agodi, where the 2023 Eid-el Fitri itri prayer was observed on Friday in Ibadan.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Adebayo Lawal, listed the virtues of Ramadan as love, perseverance, peace and justice.
According to him, if the Muslim faithful can imbibe these virtues, it would encourage government to achieve more than it had recoded in the last four years.
The governor assured residents on his administration’s plan to do more, stressing, however, that this would require cooperation of the people of the state.
The Chief Imam of Ibadan land, Sheik Abdulganiyy Agbotomokekere, led hundreds of Muslim faithful in prayers to mark this year’s Eid-el Fitri.
Agbotomokekere urged them to emulate the virtues of Prophet Muhammad and abstain from all vices that negated the doctrines of Islam.
The deputy governor led other government functionaries to Gov. Makinde’s house to pay him Eid-el-Fitri homage.
Makinde seized the opportunity of the visit to appreciate all Muslims in his government for their support, stating that all the achievements recorded by his administration so far were collective ones.
He said that his administration had laid a solid foundation for rapid development across the state and that provision of good governance would continue to be his administration’s priority.
The governor also commended the people of the state for their support which manifested in his re-election for a second term in office.
