Avoid Obasa’s pitfalls, IPAC tells new Speaker, Meranda
The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Lagos State has described as welcomed development the emergence of Mrs Mojisola Meranda as the first Female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The State IPAC Chairperson, Mrs Temilola Akinade, in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos, however urged Meranda to avoid pitfalls that led to the removal of the Speaker of the House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa.
Congratulating Meranda and describing her election a good radiance in Lagos politics, Akinade said: “Women are coming up gradually especially at the corridor of power.
“We welcome this a lot at the level of IPAC in Lagos State.”
The IPAC boss urged the new speaker to carry all the other 39 lawmakers along in all dealings and activities.
She added: “Our advice to the new speaker, is to critically look at what made his predecessor fall. She must avoid all the banana peels that brought Obasa down.
“She must carry all the members of the house along- doing things alone like a thin god, will not pay her at all.
“Bringing everybody together will help her to be successful in her tenure.
“Meranda should also know that all power belongs to God, and avoid being intoxicated by power.”
Akinade called on the new speaker to strengthen the relationship between IPAC and the House.
“I expect her to recognise other political parties and have a cordial relationship with IPAC,” she added.
NAN reports that Obasa (APC-Agege1 ), a sixth-term lawmaker, serving his third term as Speaker, was on Monday removed by lawmakers
Thirth-two (32) out of the 40 lawmakers, at an emergency plenary, impeached Obasa via voice votes over alleged gross misconduct.
NAN reports that the Assembly subsequently elected and swore in Deputy Speaker, Mrs Mojisola Meranda (APC-Apapa I) to replace Obasa while Mr Fatai Adebola (APC- Ibeji-Lekki I) was elected as the Deputy Speaker.
The House also suspended the Clerk of the Assembly, Mr Olalekan Onafeko, indefinitely during the plenary and dissolved all principal positions and standing committees.
