Make your impacts felt by host communities, Makinde urges Corps Members

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged corps members to make good impacts in their various host communities by embarking on projects that would add value to people at the grassroots.

Makinde stated this during the closing of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation course for corps members deployed to the state, at Iseyin town on Tuesday.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, enjoined the corps members to endeavour to leave good legacies by rendering selfless service to the people.

He also implored those posted to schools to impart the knowledge they had acquired from their various institutions on the younger ones and join hands with the state government in making Oyo an enviable state.

“Feel free to interact with the people of your host communities to enable you share in their dreams, hopes and aspirations for a better life.

“I also want to implore you to be a role model at your places of primary assignment, especially those of you that are posted to schools.

“The younger ones have a lot to learn from you. Make sure you influence their lives positively.

“Be diligent, dedicated and law-abiding in the discharge of your duties,” he said.

Makinde, however, cautioned the corps members to travel only when absolutely necessary in order to avert unpleasant consequences.

Also speaking, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mr Abel Odoba, urged employers not see corps members as birds of passage but as future leaders who needed to be moulded and shaped in conformity with acceptable standard.

Odoba appealed to the employers to provide basic needs, such as accommodation and transportation or allowance in lieu for corps members.

He charged corps members to strive and be committed to duties, remain law abiding and accept challenges that would give them an edge in life.

“I implore you to add value to the certificates you have obtained by embarking on acquiring skills for self-development.

“We implore local government authorities to seize the opportunity provided by the scheme, through the Community Development Programme, by sponsoring projects identified by corps members.
