INEC lauds CSOs in Oyo, seeks support ahead of LG poll
Ibadan- The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State on Thursday commended the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the state for their continual support in entrenching democracy.
Dr Adeniran Tella, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Oyo State gave the commendation during the maiden edition of the quarterly meeting between INEC and all registered Civil Society Organisations held on April 18 in Ibadan.
Tella said: “It will not be out of place to commend your unwavering dedication, support, commitment and understanding in the last held 2023 General Elections in the state.
“It was well deserved indeed it has shown that the Pacesetter state is blessed with a good crop of Civil Society Organisations.
“Importantly, your collaborative efforts as one of the critical stakeholders in electioneering process have indeed contributed to the success of past General Elections and other Electoral activities in Oyo State.”
The REC said that the meeting remained unique in the sense that it marked the first of its kind at the state level.
“The essence of which is to ensure that regular interactive exist between the Commission and Civil Society Organisations at the state level accordingly,” he said.
In his own message at the meeting, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Adebola Hamzat (PhD) enjoined the representatives of the CSOs in the state to ensure that they used their respective platforms to encourage non-violence before, during and after the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
He also used the occasion to assure the people of Oyo State to come out in large number to vote for candidates of their choice in the said election as according to the CP “security of lifes and properties are secured.”
He finally promised a robust collaboration with the CSOs in the state to achieve free, fair and violence free local government elections in Oyo State.
